SILVER SPRING, MD -- Real Maryland FC announced that international midfielder Dennis Alas arrived in Washington DC on Saturday evening from his native El Salvador and has joined the club’s preseason training camp.
Alas joins Real Maryland from San Salvador FC, pending international clearance. The 23 year old teams up with fellow countryman and national teammate Ronald Cerritos, both of whom were called up to the national team of El Salvador for the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup qualifier with Anguilla later this month.
Before then, however, all eyes will be on Alas when Real Maryland FC scrimmages the George Mason University Patriots this Saturday at 2:00 pm.
Alas came to prominence in last summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup when he scored the winning goal in El Salvador’s 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago. Playing for Real Maryland is a dream come true for Alas.
“I’m grateful for the reception my teammates have given me,” Alas said after his first training session. “I feel great, physically and mentally, and I’ll be out there giving 100 percent every game. This is a terrific opportunity and I’m going to make the most of it.”
Real Maryland FC kicks off their inaugural season in the United Soccer Leagues with a 4:00 p.m. home match on April 20th, 2008 against the Western Mass Pioneers at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown (Boyds) Maryland. Season tickets are now being sold and fans who purchase them in advance receive a replica team jersey and other special offers.
