WILMINGTON, NC -- The Wilmington Hammerheads announced the addition of three players for the upcoming season. Jamie Holmes, Lenworth Hyde and Josh Smith will be bleeding blue and white in 2008, pending USSF approval. With two newcomers and the re-signing of a former player the 2008 season is looking better than ever.

The Hammerheads welcome back forward, Jamie Holmes, for the 2008 season. Holmes came to the Hammerheads last season after previously playing for the New England Revolution. In his first season with the Hammerheads, Holmes scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 12 appearances. During the 2007 season Holmes was loaned out to the Rochester Raging Rhinos where he played 31 minutes in his debut against Montreal, as well as scoring the game winning goal in his first start for the Rhinos against the Carolina RailHawks. Holmes is looking forward to being back and hopes to make a big impact as front forward for the Hammerheads this season.

Lenworth ‘Lenny’ Hyde joins us from an amateur Atlanta Silverbacks Reserve team that competes in the local Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League, where he scored 9 goals in 5 games. Prior to the Silverbacks ADASL team he played for Jamaica National Premier League team Tivoli Gardens FC. He has also represented his country for the U20/23 Olympic qualifiers. He was also a part of the senior National Team in 2002 and 2006. 'I am really excited and happy about coming to Wilmington and joining the Hammerheads.' Lenny said. 'I am coming to play to the best of my ability for the club and help them have a great 2008 season.'

Last but not least the Hammerheads are pleased to add three time All-American midfielder Josh Smith to the squad. Smith is also joining us from Atlanta where he played in 25 games with the USL First Division's Atlanta Silverbacks in 2006. He started his professional career in Charleston where in the 2005 season he doubled his minutes playing in 27 games. Before going pro Smith attended Trinity University where he led the Tigers to an undefeated season (24-0) ending in the University’s first NCAA D3 championship.
